
Tamara White
Tamara grew up in both Southern California and Upstate New York and has spent her adult years living in Maryland. She is a graduate of Pepperdine University with a joint Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Spanish. After getting her B.A., Tamara pursued her teaching certification in elementary education from the University of California, Dominguez Hills. Tamara brings over 20 years of combined teaching and tutoring experience to the center.
Prior to becoming a full-time tutor, Tamara taught English and Ancient Civilizations for gifted and talented students at South Gate Middle School in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She also taught middle school English, Remedial Reading, World History, and Environmental Science at Friendship Public Charter Schools in Washington, D.C. She now tutors middle school, high school, and college students in a variety of academic subjects and electives at the center where she’s worked for over 10 years. Tamara specializes in tutoring courses in AP English, History, and Social Sciences as well as all levels of Spanish. In addition to tutoring, Tamara teaches both Organizational & Executive Functioning Skills to support the needs of her students.
Her teaching philosophy is rooted in “setting high expectations and believing that no task is too challenging when approached with determination and the right strategies. Tamara emphasizes fostering a growth mindset in her students, where learning to overcome obstacles and persist in the face of difficulty is as important as the final outcome. She’s committed to equipping students with the tools, skills, and resources they need to achieve excellence, and continuously seeks innovative ways to incorporate educational materials and technologies to support their success.”
When Tamara’s not tutoring, she spends her leisure time writing. She is a published author who has written a romance novel titled Sands of Grace and two young adult novels—Crepes and Crickets and My Grandpa, the Bodybuilder. Her books are available worldwide through platforms like Amazon and Barnes & Noble. In addition to writing, Tamara has a passion for collecting heirloom seeds and nurturing her garden and backyard orchard. She also enjoys cooking and spending quality time with her husband of over 11 years and five nieces and nephews.
