
Bimali Bandarabayake
Bimali Bandaranayake holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Iowa, a Master of Science in Chemistry from Eastern Illinois University, and a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Mathematics and Chemistry from the University of Peradeniya. Bimali is a highly skilled Research Scientist with expertise in the chemical characterization of drugs. With 16 years of full-time experience across academia, government, and part-time tutoring, Bimali has built a diverse career spanning research and education.

She spent 14 years in academia, having worked at the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka, Eastern Illinois University, and the University of Iowa. Bimali also served as a Mentor and Lead Teacher at Fusion Academy in Washington, D.C. for one year. She was awarded the Best Teaching Assistant Award in 2010 by Eastern Illinois University and the Best Teacher/Mentor Award in 2021 by Fusion Academy, Washington, D.C. Her experience includes working with undergraduate and graduate students, as well as with special-needs students ranging from middle school to high school. In addition, she worked as a graduate student mentor at Eastern Illinois University and taught a variety of chemistry courses, from high school honors to graduate level, and mathematics for middle school to high school students. Bimali has over 16 years of experience in both remote and in-person tutoring. She is dedicated to working with children, particularly those seeking attention and care, and has experience working with special-needs children, including those with anxiety and ADHD.

Outside of her professional work, Bimali enjoys baking, cake decorating, and painting.
